Kecak, also known as the Ramayana Monkey Chant is a dance drama based on Ramayana, an ancient Indian epic poem narrating the struggle of the prince Rama to rescue his wife Sita from the demon king Ravana. It was originally a trance ritual adapted in the 1930s by German painter and musician Walter Spies who lived in Bali since 1927, working together with Indonesian dancer Wayan Limbak.
